To Kill a Mockingbird 1 (by Sew Technicolor)
I’m re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird at the moment, it’s pretty much my favourite book and pulls at my heart strings every time. So of course, I’m looking through Etsy and Flickr for anything TKaM themed! This stitched piece is stunning.
"I chose Harper Lee’s "To Kill a Mockingbird" as my embroidered cover.
I read the novel for the first time earlier this year, and it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read. I loved its message and simplicity. For a book on such a serious issue, I was surprised by how funny and charming it was in so many parts!
I’m a nerd for book covers, and this is my favorite cover for “To Kill a Mockingbird.” I love silhouettes, anyway, but this little girl is a perfect Scout. And I just love how striking the design is, even though it only uses three basic colors.
My embroidery is stitched on grey broadcloth with a white cotton moon stitched on. I used a split stitch for all of the outlining and then went back and filled it in with (an adaptation of) long and short stitch. I didn’t want to use a satin stitch (except on the bird), because I wanted the “tree bark” to look rough instead of smooth.
My piece is based on this cover, illustrated by Sarah Coleman.”
